The first move is made in Ugra stage of FIDE Grand Prix Series
The final leg of the FIDE Grand Prix Series has started in Khanty-Mansiysk. The first move in the tournament was made by the Deputy Governor of Ugra Alexey Putin.
Alexey Putin decided to follow the advice of one of the characters of a famous Soviet movie. The first move 1.Nf3 was made on a board where 31 y.o. Dmitry Jakovenko representing Ugra is playing against Anish Giri.
«Ugra has already become a home for the world’s top chess tournaments. We are very glad that the winner of one of the most important trophies of the chess world will be decided in Khanty-Mansiysk. We hope that pupils of Ugra, that have only started to learn the basics of this intellectual game, will attend this tournament and feel more motivated to play chess. Especially because chess player from Ugra Dmitry Jakovenko is among the participants», — said Alexey Putin to the press-center of the tournament.
All the games are available online on the official web-page of the tournament. In Russian version of the broadcast the games are commented by Sergey Shipov and Sergey Rublevsky. In the English version comments are made by Evgeny Miroshnichenko and Viorel Iordachescu.
