Khanty-Mansiysk Grand Prix: Tomashevsky and Jakovenko win in round one

The first round of the Khanty-Mansiysk FIDE Grand Prix was inaugurated by Deputy Governor of Ugra Alexey Putin who made the honorary move 1.Nf3 in the game Jakovenko – Giri.

In a repeat of the previous Grand Prix in Tbilisi, Baadur Jobava and Evgeny Tomashevsky were paired in the first round. Tomashevsky won again but only after turning the tables from a very grim position.

The local Grand Prix nominee, Dmitry Jakovenko, defeated Anish Giri in the longest game of the day. Right after the opening white won a pawn and then traded most of the pieces to convert the advantage in the Rook ending.
