Key to start!
Tomorrow, on May’13 the final leg of FIDE Grand Prix Series 2014/15 will start in Ugra Chess Academy in Khanty-Mansiysk. Tonight the world best chess players will arrive to the capital of Ugra.
The tournament will consist of 11 rounds. Chess players will have 2 days-off – there will be no games on May’18 and May’22. Participants of the tournament will be able to attend the cultural program of the competitions, which is now being formed. It is worth noting that the final games will be played on May’26. On the same day the closing ceremony and the awarding of the winners will take place.
12 world best chess players will play in the tournament. Russia will be represented by five grand masters: Sergey Karyakin, Alexander Grischuk, Peter Svidler, Evgeny Tomashevsky and Dmitry Yakovenko. Besides, chess players from USA, Cuba, France, Georgia, Israel, Italy and the Netherlands will be playing in Khanty-Mansiysk.
It is worth noting that Ugra pays great attention to developing chess on modern level. Officials of the region are sure that this is a very effective way of intellectual development and forming creative talents among youth.
According to the statistics, currently around 25 000 children and young people of the region are playing chess.
Ugra is the leader in popularizing chess in schools. Currently 1/10 of all pupils and students in the region is playing this intellectual sport.
Ugra is also one of the leaders in Russia in organizing online chess tournaments. Anyone despite of his or her location is able to participate in such tournaments.
